Join me for an insightful presentation on “Crafting Planets in VRAGE3” where I delve into the innovative techniques and technologies behind creating stunning planetary landscapes in the VRAGE3 game engine, developed by Keen SWH which is best known for its famous hit game about exploration and engineering in space – Space Engineers.
What this masterclass is about?
This lecture explores the journey of Keen SWH, from its foundation to the success of Space Engineers game on the Steam Store in 2013. We will briefly discuss the evolution from VRAGE2 to VRAGE3, highlighting the challenges faced and improvements made in planetary visuals. The session will cover the creation of Heightmaps, baked Overlays, Voxel materials, Biome Maps, and Atmospheres, as well as techniques for enhancing landscape detail with Boulders, Overhangs, and Caves. Lighting effects such as Raytracing and Global Illumination will also be discussed, complemented by stunning planetary images from the game engine.

For now the maximum number of people attending online lectures is limited to 5-10 people per lecture as attendees should have enough time for their questions at the end of the lecture. In case of live physical events in schools, universities and similar facilities, the number of attendees might be significantly larger of course.
How long does this lecture approximately take?
This is a one time lecture lasting approximately for an hour including 10-15 for Questions and Answers in the end of the lecture.
